Day Sail: MOB & Heave practices.

Image
The winds were light - 3 to 6 knots — so the Knotty Girl crew headed out at 8 am to practice Man Over Boat practices and Heave to practices. We totaled 4.42 NM miles under perfect sunny skies and flat seas. Top speed was 4.32 knots under motor power and our average speed was 1.10 knots. Not very fast for the tree hours we were out. However it was really great to practice these sailing skills as we both seemed to feel we are now better prepared to handle such a situation.  Water temperature was 23.4 degrees Celsius. Total trip after the new equipment has been installed is: 59.4 NM.  See you on the seas, Captain Knotty

Itoman Marina

Image
Stopped by Itoman Marina on the way to a Sailor’s end of year party called a “Bonenkai.” Was able to a near perfect sunset shot.  I stopped by as I had never been and it was a little difficult to find using Google maps and Google as the name doesn’t really show up as Itoman Marina. So took about another 15 minutes to find. I’ll be looking at other ports here in Okinawa as im trying to do a port report in the destinations section of my Sailing Okinawa website.

Boat upholstery project

Image
It’s taken more than a month but I’m in the final stages of reupholstering the entire boat.  These are the seat backs for the port side settee. I’m using ONE PIECE patterned material for the seat backs. I’m reusing the foam from the old seat backs. Original plan was to cut new foam but since this project is taking way longer than I initially planned I’m just rolling with it. I’m creating buttons for the cushions using Sailrite SnapTogether Button Form 7/8” buttons notions. It takes about 5 minutes to create each button. Probably will spend the day working on this project. See you on the seas Captain Knotty

Launched the website "Sailing Okinawa"

Image
L Launched the web site "Sailing Okinawa" www.sailingokinawa.com yesterday. I'm going to start concentrating more on electronic publishing of information about sailing here in Okinawa as opposed to social media.  My goal is to be considered THE source of information for enthusiasts and cruisers about all things sailing in Okinawa. The focus of the web site will be two fold, providing information in English about sailing here and providing educational information in English to improve would-be sailor's seamanship skills. See you on the seas, Captain Knotty
